- Belinda Paterson, Clinical Psychologist

Welcome, I’m Belinda Paterson, a clinical psychologist in Kew with a special interest in supporting individuals who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, self-doubt, and the unrelenting drive to be perfect.

Anxiety often hums quietly in the background until stress, change, or life’s demands turn up the volume. It can surface during key transitions: starting university and stepping into the world beyond school, navigating the perinatal period, juggling the growing complexity of work and caregiving, or navigating the ‘empty nest’, and life beyond paid work.

These experiences are challenging—but they also offer an opening. A chance for clarity, growth, and meaningful change.

My approach is evidence-based, thoughtful, warm, and collaborative. Together, we’ll map out your experiences to better understand your patterns, strengthen your coping strategies, and move toward a life that feels more grounded, flexible, and connected to what matters most to you.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

I’m a Clinical Psychologist and the founder of IN.BALANCE, my solo private practice dedicated to supporting young people and adults experiencing anxiety.

I completed my postgraduate training, including a Master of Clinical Psychology, at the University of Melbourne. I’ve worked across a variety of settings, including public mental health, private practice, and the legal system, and have held several leadership and clinical roles.

My clinical experience includes:

  • Conducting individual and family assessments at the Children’s Court Clinic (Victoria) as a Single Expert Witness

  • Working as a Senior Clinician at headspace, supporting young people and their families

  • Leading content development for digital mental health programs aimed at young people within primary and specialist services

  • Providing therapy and psychological assessments at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (oncology)

  • Supporting children (6+), adolescents, and adults in private practice

I created IN.BALANCE to focus on supporting individuals who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, and the internal pressures that often drive emotional distress. I am particularly interested in how these challenges affect coping, identity, relationships, parenting, performance, and the creation of a meaningful life.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I take the time to deeply understand your story and collaborate with you to design a therapeutic plan that aligns with your goals and values. I draw on a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and relational therapies such as Schema-informed Therapy. My work is also informed by attachment theory, developmental psychology, and systems theories.

I am registered with AHPRA with clinical endorsement and am a Medicare provider under the Better Access to Mental Healthcare Initiative. I’m also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).
